The Presidential Election in the United States of America was a mere five days ago and was the culmination of one of the most expensive and dirty races run in the history of the Nation.
I thought that the grand conclusion would mean an end to the insanity that gripped the Nation and that maturity would raise it's head as the Nation rolled up it's sleeves to work together once more.
How very naive I was...
I fully expected the finger pointing from the losing side as they tried to make sense of how they lost and what they could have done differently... what I did not expect was for people to lose what sense their Mama gave them and start chanting to actually secede from the United States!
Hearing that one loner has screamed this as he buys 50 more pounds of freeze dried peas would not surprise me... but to see that so many have jumped on the "we lost and we do not want to play with you anymore" bandwagon gave me pause and a huge case of the giggles.
They have even taken it a step further...
President Obama set up a way to hear what topics are most important to the American people by setting up a link on the White House website that allows average citizens to post petitions. If a petition gets at least 25,000 signatures within a month's time it will be forwarded to the 'powers that be' in the White House for consideration.
There are many groups that use this function to try to get attention for their cause, be it a health condition that needs more research and better treatment options or asking for harsher laws for animal abusers.
The secessionists, however, have decided that this is how they will ask to leave the United States of America and take their home state with them! (I wonder if they grasp the irony of using a program set in place by the very same President they say does not pay attention to issues important to them?)
15 Petitions according to Examiner.com have been filed at WhiteHouse.Gov in the petition area with people asking for their states to peacefully secede from the Union and the word is spreading among those who refuse to believe that voting is actually the most fair way to decide upon the President.
An example of the reasons given -
Given that the state of Texas maintains a balanced budget and is the 15th largest economy in the world, it is practically feasible for Texas to withdraw from the union, and to do so would protect it’s citizens’ standard of living and re-secure their rights and liberties in accordance with the original ideas and beliefs of our founding fathers which are no longer being reflected by the federal government.
Texas also has a another statistic that they might have overlooked-A 17.9% Poverty Level which also ranks pretty high up there.
Now... this begs the question... what (other than than football games, since the NFL would no longer be a part of their recreational pastime) would they be giving up?
- Social Security- all that money paid in will be gone. Think of it like abandoning a house. All of the money that you put in over the years cannot be taken out as you leave. The new roof, the electrical wiring, the grass you planted... all the money that you invested so that one day when you decide to sell at a profit stays with the house. You decided to abandon it knowing you would not ever see a cent. Just know that if you abandon your country all of the money you invested in it will be staying with the country.
- The US Military- Funny thing about the Military... it belongs to the Nation and not to individual states. This means that the different branches of the Military would pull all of their Service Members out of your state as you secede. This means the closing of all of the bases until an agreement is made deciding how much of a US presence will be in your little sovereign state if they decide to have any there at all. With the Military will go all of the Military contracting jobs.
- Customs and Border Protection- Want to keep illegals out? Good luck on that one because the US Border Patrol will instead be working to keep you out. You will need to have a passport to visit the United States just like any other foreign national and you would have to get a green card if you happen to work across state lines.
That at least 15 people thought it was a good idea to list their little petition at the White House website (set up by the President, lol) thinking that they wanted to run away from home gives me ticklish giggles of delight.
Seriously, people... put on the big boy panties and stop threatening to run away from home because the person you wanted to win the election did not win.
Do you want to know the real reason behind the loss of the election?
There is a large faction of the United States of America that has become lazy and refuses to use the resources available to them to do research on topics of note and instead will take the opinion of a single "news" station on cable as truth. They have been taught to question the Government and refuse to hear any answer that is not approved by Fox News. They refuse to check independent studies and fact check spending and expenditure figures because someone else has been kind enough to do that for them... never bothering to question the answers they are given!
The election was lost because a very extreme faction has taken over a political party and is insisting on their way only, no compromise... no questions... no surrender. There is no room for debate and if you do not agree with them 100% then you are in the wrong and that is that.
The election was lost because people have been told that making sure that Americans are able to see a Doctor when sick is a bad thing... people have been told that taking care of each other is a bad thing... people have been told that anyone who believes in helping the poor is trying to steal from them and THEY BELIEVED IT!
The election was lost because more people voted for helping others than against it.
I agree with everything you said except...the election was lost. We won! The people that lost were the ones who couldn't see and hear the lies! Send this post to Texas, maybe the Bush's can run their little nation! God bless 'em!
ReplyDeleteI think if you took a national poll, a huge majority of Americans would be happy to be rid of Texas. The only good politicians ever to emerge from Texas seem to have been Anne Richards and Lyndon Johnson. Think of George Bush, Rick Perry, Tom DeLay, John Cornyn, Phil Gramm and now the new one, Ted Cruz! If it were not for Molly Ivins Texas would truly be a wasteland!
ReplyDeleteIt is foolish to believe that Social Security will be there for any of us... other than that... nice post. Very entertaining.
